Society Parakeet

Cyanoramphus saisseti

The Society Parakeet (Cyanoramphus saisseti) is a small, colorful parakeet endemic to the Society Islands of French Polynesia. These parakeets have bright green plumage with a red forehead and blue streaks on the wings. They are known for their playful and social nature, often forming large flocks in their forested habitats. Society Parakeets are primarily arboreal, foraging for fruits, seeds, and insects in the dense tropical forests of the islands. Due to habitat loss and predation by introduced species, the population of Society Parakeets is declining, and they are classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
