Sokoke Pipit

Anthus sokokensis

The Sokoke Pipit (Anthus sokokensis) is a small, elusive bird species found in the coastal forests of southeastern Kenya and northeastern Tanzania. This species is known for its distinctive high-pitched call and secretive nature, often foraging on the forest floor for insects and seeds. The Sokoke Pipit is characterized by its streaked brown plumage, a pale underside, and a subtle yellowish wash on the breast. It is an important indicator of the health of its specialized coastal forest habitat, which is increasingly threatened by deforestation and habitat degradation.
