Phoeniculus somaliensis
The Somali Bee-eater is a striking bird found in the Horn of Africa. With its vibrant green plumage, chestnut throat, and black mask, it is a visually stunning species. These medium-sized birds are known for their acrobatic flight as they hunt for insects, especially bees and wasps, which make up the majority of their diet. They are often found perched on branches or wires, scanning the surroundings for their next meal. The Somali Bee-eater is typically found in arid and semi-arid habitats, including savannas, scrublands, and open woodlands. Although they are not currently considered threatened, their habitat is increasingly under pressure from human activities.
