Song thrush

Turdus philomelos

The song thrush (Turdus philomelos) is a medium-sized thrush with a distinctive speckled appearance on its underparts. It is known for its melodious and varied song, which it often delivers from high perches. This bird is found in a variety of habitats including woodlands, parks, and gardens, where it forages for invertebrates, snails, and berries. The song thrush is known for its habit of using stones as anvils to break open snail shells. Its population has declined in some regions due to habitat loss and pesticide use, but it is still widespread and not currently considered at risk.
