Sooty Falcon

Sooty Falcon, Falco concolor, breeds from Libya to south-west Pakistan across North Africa and the Palearctic, and spends the non-breeding season in south-eastern Africa and Madagascar. It is a falcon in the family Falconidae, first described by Temminck in 1825. The species nests on islands and on coastal or desert cliffs, often in arid settings, and may also use rocky ledges. It is a long-distance migrant, moving between its breeding grounds and winter quarters. In the breeding season it takes migrating birds, while in winter large insects make up a much greater part of the diet.
