Sooty Grassquit, Asemospiza fuliginosa, is a passerine in the tanager family that breeds in South America, from Venezuela and Trinidad through Bolivia, north-east and central Brazil, and north-east Argentina. It is a small bird and is regarded as a tanager with a close link to Darwin’s finches. Its range also includes Colombia, Guyana and Paraguay. It occurs in moist lowland forest, moist montane forest, dry shrubland, and in heavily altered former woodland.
