Sooty-headed bulbul

Pycnonotus tympanistrigus

The sooty-headed bulbul (Pycnonotus tympanistrigus) is a small passerine bird found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its sooty-black head, contrasting with a yellowish underbelly and olive-green upperparts. These birds are known for their melodious and varied songs, often heard in the early morning and late afternoon. Sooty-headed bulbuls are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits, berries, and insects. They are often seen in small flocks, foraging in the canopy and mid-levels of the forest. Despite some habitat loss, they are generally considered to be of least concern in terms of conservation status.
