Sooty Robin

Turdus nigriceps

The Sooty Robin (Turdus nigriceps) is a small songbird found in the highland forests of New Guinea. It is characterized by its dark plumage, with a sooty black head and upperparts, and a contrasting white throat and belly. This species is known for its melodious and varied song, often heard during the breeding season. Sooty Robins forage for insects and small invertebrates in the dense undergrowth of montane forests, where they build cup-shaped nests to raise their young. Despite being relatively common within its restricted range, the Sooty Robin faces potential threats from habitat loss and degradation.
