Sooty Thicket Fantail, Rhipidura threnothorax, is a bird of New Guinea and its satellites in Australasia. It belongs to the fantail family, Rhipiduridae, and was described by Müller in 1843. Its breeding range includes New Guinea, the Raja Ampat Islands, the Aru Islands and Yapen. It lives in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. Among fantails, it is one of the thicket group and is noted for weak flight, needing to land often. Two recognised subspecies are listed for it.
