Sooty Thrush

Turdus olivaceus

The Sooty Thrush (Turdus olivaceus) is a medium-sized songbird found in the highland forests of Central and South America. It has a dark sooty plumage with a contrasting orange bill and eye-ring. This thrush is known for its melodious and flute-like song, often heard echoing through the misty cloud forests. Sooty thrushes are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits, insects, and small invertebrates. They play a vital role in seed dispersal and maintaining the ecological balance of their forest habitats. Despite their adaptability, habitat loss and fragmentation pose significant threats to their populations.
