Sooty Thrush

Turdus simillimus

The Sooty Thrush (Turdus simillimus) is a medium-sized songbird found in the highlands of Costa Rica and western Panama. It has a dark sooty-gray plumage with a pale eye ring and a distinctive melodic song. This species is often found in montane forests and cloud forests, where it forages for insects, fruits, and berries in the understory and lower canopy. Sooty Thrushes are known for their shy and elusive nature, often remaining hidden within dense vegetation. While their population is currently stable, deforestation and habitat loss pose potential threats to their future survival.
