Sooty Tit

Aegithalos fuliginosus

The Sooty Tit (Aegithalos fuliginosus) is a small passerine bird found in the temperate forests of East Asia. It is characterized by its distinctive sooty black plumage, with a white belly and a long tail. These agile birds are known for their acrobatic foraging behavior, often seen hanging upside down while searching for insects and spiders. Sooty Tits are social birds, often found in small flocks, and they communicate through a variety of calls and songs. They build intricate, dome-shaped nests using moss, lichen, and spider silk, often hidden in dense vegetation. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential future risks to their populations.
