Sooty Tyrannulet, Serpophaga nigricans, is a passerine bird of the tyrant flycatcher family that breeds in southern Bolivia, Paraguay, south-eastern Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. It was described by Vieillot in 1817. Its range also includes Tarija in Bolivia and parts of Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, southern and central Argentina, and Uruguay. It is linked to brushy places beside streams, rivers and other water, and may also occur in forest away from water. It is a small bird with dark grey plumage, a black tail, pale wingbars and a partly hidden white crown stripe.
