South Georgia Pipit

Anthus antarcticus

The South Georgia Pipit, also known as the Antarctic Pipit, is a small passerine bird native to the subantarctic island of South Georgia. It is the only passerine species that breeds on the island, and it is well adapted to the harsh and windy conditions of its habitat. The South Georgia Pipit has a mottled brown plumage that provides camouflage in its grassland and tundra habitats. It feeds on insects, small invertebrates, and seeds, and its melodious song can often be heard across the island. Despite facing threats from invasive species, the population of the South Georgia Pipit is currently stable.
