Puffinus elegans

The South Pacific Shearwater (Puffinus elegans) is a medium-sized seabird found in the southern Pacific Ocean. It has a dark plumage, long wings, and a distinctive black cap on its head. These birds are highly adapted for life at sea, with a streamlined body and strong wings for efficient flight. South Pacific Shearwaters are skilled fliers and can be seen gliding effortlessly over the ocean surface. They are known for their graceful aerial acrobatics and their haunting calls. These birds nest in burrows on remote islands and forage for fish and squid in the open ocean. They are vulnerable to threats such as habitat destruction and marine pollution.
