South Polar Skua

Stercorarius maccormicki

The South Polar Skua, scientifically known as Stercorarius maccormicki, is a seabird species found in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a large, predatory bird with a wingspan of around 125-140 cm. These skuas are known for their aggressive behavior and are often seen harassing other seabirds to steal their food. Their plumage is predominantly dark brown with white patches on the wings. South Polar Skuas breed on the Antarctic coast and nearby islands, and they migrate to the northern oceans during the non-breeding season. They are well-adapted to the harsh Antarctic environment and are skilled hunters both at sea and on land.
