Southern Fiscal

Lanius collaris Linnaeus, 1766

Southern Fiscal, Lanius collaris, is a shrike of Africa, breeding in Namibia, south-west Angola, south to Mozambique and South Africa, and also in north-east, central and south-west Tanzania and northern Malawi. It is a passerine of the shrike family and was named by Linnaeus in 1766. It is a fairly distinctive bird with white underparts, black upperparts from crown to tail, a white V on the back, and a long black tail edged and tipped in white. The bill, eyes and legs are black, and the female has a rufous lower flank.
