Southern Grosbeak-Canary

Crithagra buchanani (Hartert, EJO, 1919)

Fringillidae — Finches, Euphonias

Southern Grosbeak-Canary, Crithagra buchanani, is a finch found in southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. It belongs to the family Fringillidae and is part of the passerine order. Its breeding range lies in Africa across those two countries. The bird is associated with dry shrubland in subtropical or tropical areas. It was once included in Serinus, but later work on mitochondrial and nuclear DNA led to its transfer to Crithagra after that genus was shown to contain unrelated species.
