Southern Hill Myna

Gracula indica (Cuvier, 1829)

Southern Hill Myna, Gracula indica, is a starling of south-western India and Sri Lanka. It is found in forested country there, including tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forest, mountains, mangroves and plantation areas. In the canopy and at forest edges, it travels in noisy groups and keeps together with a range of calls. It is also known for copying human sounds and voices, and it is bred in captivity for that ability. It nests in tree holes, usually lays two or three eggs, and the sexes look alike.
