Southern Pied Babbler

Turdoides bicolor

The Southern Pied Babbler (Turdoides bicolor) is a sociable bird found in southern Africa. These birds are known for their cooperative breeding behavior, living in groups of up to 14 individuals. They have striking black and white plumage with a chestnut-colored nape. Southern Pied Babblers are highly vocal, producing a variety of calls and songs to communicate within their group. They forage for insects and small invertebrates in open woodlands and savannas, using their strong bills to probe and glean food from the ground.
