Southern Red Bishop
Telophorus cruentus
The Southern Red Bishop is a small passerine bird native to southern Africa. The male is easily recognized by its striking red and black plumage, with a distinctive bright red head and throat during the breeding season. The female is more subtly colored, with streaked brown and buff plumage. These birds are often found in wetland areas, such as marshes, reedbeds, and grasslands, where they forage for seeds and insects. They are known for their elaborate courtship displays, where the males puff up their bright red plumage to attract mates. The Southern Red Bishop is not currently considered to be at risk, and its population is stable.
