Southern Royal Albatross

Diomedea epomophora

The Southern Royal Albatross, scientifically known as Diomedea epomophora, is a large seabird with a wingspan of up to 3.5 meters. These majestic birds are known for their graceful gliding flight over the southern oceans. They have a white body with black outer wings and back, and a pink bill with a blue tip. Southern Royal Albatrosses are long-lived and form monogamous pairs. They breed on remote subantarctic islands and spend much of their lives foraging over the open ocean, often following ships for food. They are vulnerable to fisheries bycatch and habitat degradation.
