Spangled Cotinga

Cotinga cayana

The Spangled Cotinga is a striking bird found in the tropical forests of South America. Males are a brilliant turquoise blue with a spangled pattern on the wings, while females are a more subdued greenish color. These birds are known for their distinctive calls and are often found in the canopy of the forest. They primarily feed on fruits and play a role in seed dispersal. The Spangled Cotinga is not considered globally threatened, but habitat loss and deforestation are potential threats to its population.
