Spangled Drongo

Dicrurus bracteatus Gould, 1843

Spangled Drongo, Dicrurus bracteatus, is a drongo of Australasia, breeding in the Moluccas, the New Guinea region, northern and eastern Australia, the Bismarck Archipelago and the Solomon Islands. In Australia it is the only drongo present. It is identified by its dark, glossy plumage with blue and purple sheen and by its long, forked tail. Its eyes are crimson. It feeds on insects and small vertebrates, and it is known for varied calls and for copying sounds it hears. It breeds high in an isolated tree and raises three to five young each year.
