Spangled Drongo

Dicrurus forficatus

The Spangled Drongo, scientifically known as Dicrurus forficatus, is a striking bird found in Australia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. It is known for its glossy black plumage with iridescent blue-green spots, long forked tail, and distinctive red eyes. This species is highly vocal, with a variety of calls and mimicry abilities. The Spangled Drongo is often found in a range of forested habitats, including rainforests, woodlands, and mangroves. It is an agile aerial forager, catching insects in flight and often perching in open areas. This bird plays an important role in the ecosystem by controlling insect populations. While its population is considered stable, habitat loss and deforestation pose potential threats to its long-term survival.
