Spanish Imperial Eagle

Aquila adalberti

The Spanish Imperial Eagle, or Aquila adalberti, is a large bird of prey found in the Iberian Peninsula. It is known for its impressive size, with a wingspan reaching up to 2 meters. This majestic raptor has a dark brown plumage, a distinctive white patch on the shoulders, and a powerful beak and talons. The Spanish Imperial Eagle is a skilled hunter, preying on small mammals and birds in its open woodland and grassland habitat. Due to habitat loss, persecution, and pesticide poisoning, the species is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, and conservation efforts are underway to protect its remaining populations.
