Speckle-chested Piculet, Picumnus steindachneri, is a woodpecker from the Andes of northern Peru, where it is found in Amazonas and San Martín. It was described by Taczanowski in 1882. It is a Peruvian endemic and the only member of its type. The bird lives in humid lowland forest and montane forest with vines, epiphytes and bamboos, and it also uses mature secondary growth. Its known range is very small, centred on the central Huallaga Valley and parts of the Utcubamba Valley, between 1,000 and 2,300 m.
