Speckled Antshrike

Xenornis setifrons Chapman, 1924

Speckled Antshrike, Xenornis setifrons, is a passerine antbird of humid evergreen forest in eastern Panama and north-western Colombia. It was described by Chapman in 1924 and is the only species in its genus. In the field it is best recognised by the short black bristles around the face and bill, together with the hooked bill shared by both sexes. It lives mainly in dense understorey, often on slopes and in ravines, and is found mostly at low elevations, though it reaches higher ground in both countries.
