Speckled Chachalaca

Ortalis guttata

The Speckled Chachalaca is a medium-sized bird found in the forests and woodlands of Central and South America. It is known for its distinctive speckled plumage, with shades of brown and gray providing excellent camouflage in its dense habitat. These birds are typically seen foraging on the forest floor for fruits, seeds, and insects. They are social birds, often found in small groups or family units. The Speckled Chachalaca's loud and distinctive calls are a common sound in the early morning and late afternoon. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and hunting pose potential risks to their populations.
