Speckled Piculet

Grammatoptila striata

The Speckled Piculet is a small woodpecker found in the tropical forests of South America. It has a distinctive speckled plumage with a mottled pattern of black, white, and brown. This species is known for its habit of foraging on tree trunks and branches in search of insects and larvae. It nests in tree cavities and is often heard making rapid drumming sounds as it excavates wood. The Speckled Piculet is generally shy and elusive, making it a challenging bird to spot in the wild.
