Ducula chalconota
The Spectacled Imperial Pigeon, scientifically known as Ducula chalconota, is a large pigeon species found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia. These pigeons are characterized by their striking appearance, with a distinctive white ring around the eyes, giving them a 'spectacled' look. They have a predominantly greenish-gray plumage with a contrasting maroon patch on the lower back. Spectacled Imperial Pigeons primarily feed on fruits and play a vital role in seed dispersal within their habitat. They are known for their low, rhythmic cooing calls and are often observed in pairs or small groups. Despite facing habitat loss and hunting pressures, they are currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN due to their relatively stable population.
