Spectacled Redstart

Myiotheretes pernix

The Spectacled Redstart (Myiotheretes pernix) is a small, insectivorous bird found in the highland forests of South America. This striking species is characterized by its black plumage with bright orange patches on the wings, a white eyering, and a vibrant yellow belly. It is known for its energetic foraging behavior, often seen darting between branches and foliage in search of small insects and larvae. The Spectacled Redstart is typically found in montane cloud forests and humid Andean woodlands, where it can be observed flitting through the dense vegetation. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential threats to its populations.
