Pachycephala hypoxantha
The Spectacled Whistler (Pachycephala hypoxantha) is a small to medium-sized bird found in the rainforests and woodlands of northern Australia. It is known for its distinctive black and white facial markings, which resemble spectacles, and its melodic whistling calls. The male has striking black and white plumage, while the female is more subdued with olive-brown and gray tones. This species is primarily insectivorous, foraging for insects and small invertebrates in the dense foliage. The Spectacled Whistler plays an important role in the ecosystem as a seed disperser and predator of pest insects. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and fragmentation, its conservation status is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
