Speke's Weaver

Ploceus spekei

Speke's Weaver is a small, social bird found in East Africa. The male has striking yellow plumage with a black mask and distinctive black and white wings, while the female is more subtly colored with a yellowish-green body. These weavers are known for their intricately woven, gourd-shaped nests, often found in colonies. They are primarily seed-eaters but also consume insects, foraging in open grasslands, savannas, and cultivated areas. Speke's Weavers are not considered globally threatened and are relatively common within their range.
