Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater, Acanthagenys rufogularis, is a honeyeater found across Australia except the north and Tasmania. It was described by Gould in 1838. Its range covers deserts, coastal scrubland, dry woodlands, mangroves and orchards. It is the only species in Acanthagenys. The bird is large for a honeyeater. It is sociable and aggressive, and is often seen feeding in large flocks. Its food includes fruit, nectar, blossoms, insects, reptiles and young birds.
