Splendid Astrapia, Astrapia splendidissima, is a bird of paradise in the montane forests of western and central New Guinea. It belongs to the family Paradisaeidae and the order Passeriformes, and was described by Rothschild in 1895. Its breeding range is in Australasia. The species is known from two recognised subspecies, and hybridisation with other astrapias has been recorded. It is native to mountain forest in New Guinea, where it occurs in the uplands of the island.
