Spot-throated Hummingbird, Thaumasius taczanowskii, is a hummingbird of north and central Peru, where it breeds on the western Andean slopes and in the Marañón River valley. It was described by Sclater, PL, 1879. The species is found in arid scrub and along the margins of deciduous woodland. It is usually recorded between 900 and 1,900 m in the Andes, with local records lower down, and in the Marañón valley from 350 to 2,800 m. It is also known from the edge of the Ecuadorian border, with unconfirmed reports from Ecuador.
