Spot-winged Starling

Machlolophus spilonotus

The Spot-winged Starling, scientifically known as Machlolophus spilonotus, is a medium-sized bird belonging to the starling family. It is characterized by its glossy black plumage with distinctive white spots on the wings, giving it a striking appearance. This species is native to the eastern Himalayas and is often found in forested areas, open woodlands, and cultivated areas. The Spot-winged Starling is known for its melodious calls and is often observed in small flocks foraging for fruits, insects, and small vertebrates. Despite facing habitat loss and fragmentation, the species is currently not considered to be at risk and is classified as of Least Concern by the IUCN.
