Spotted Harrier, Circus assimilis, is an Australasian bird of prey found in Sulawesi and Sumba in the western Lesser Sundas, and across Australia apart from Tasmania. It is a member of Accipitridae and was described by Jardine & Selby in 1828. The species is a medium-sized, slim raptor with an owl-like facial ruff, long yellow legs, black-tipped wings and a barred tail that is slightly wedge-shaped. Adult birds show blue-grey upperparts, a chestnut face and underparts marked with many white spots, while young birds are darker brown and buff.
