The Spotted Harrier (Circus assimilis) is a bird of prey found in Australia and New Guinea. It is known for its distinctive spotted plumage and long wings. This raptor is often seen gliding low over open grasslands and wetlands in search of small mammals, reptiles, and insects. The Spotted Harrier is a skilled hunter, using its keen eyesight to locate prey and its agile flight to capture it. This species is known for its graceful aerial displays during courtship. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and human disturbance pose potential threats to its populations.
