Spotted Owl

Strix occidentalis

The Spotted Owl is a medium-sized owl with a round head and no ear tufts. It has dark brown plumage with white spots, and a whitish facial disk with brown concentric circles. This elusive bird is known for its haunting hoots and prefers to inhabit old-growth forests with dense vegetation. It feeds primarily on small mammals and birds. Due to habitat loss and competition with other owl species, the Spotted Owl faces significant conservation challenges. Efforts to protect its remaining habitat and manage forests sustainably are crucial for its survival.
