Square-tailed Kite Lophoictinia isura breeds in Australia, except south-eastern Australia and Tasmania, and belongs to the family Accipitridae in the order Accipitriformes. It is a medium-sized bird of prey with a square tail, a feature that helps separate it from similar raptors. Adults have a white face, pale eyes and black streaking on the crown, with heavy streaking on the breast. The tail is square with a dark band near the tip. Juveniles lack the white face and are richer rufous overall.
