Square-tailed Nightjar, Caprimulgus fossii, is a nightjar of the family Caprimulgidae that breeds in southern and south-eastern Africa. It is found mainly south of the equator, with its range extending into tropical Africa in the northern summer. The bird is named for a tail shape that is not fully square, and this feature helps to identify it in the field. It was described by Hartlaub in 1857. Its breeding range includes sc and se Africa.
