Sri Lanka Bay Owl, Phodilus assimilis, is a bird of the Oriental Region, breeding in Sri Lanka and south-west India. It belongs to the Tytonidae family and was described by Hume in 1877. It is found in Sri Lanka and the Western Ghats in Kerala, with two recognised subspecies. It is set apart from the Oriental Bay Owl by its call, plumage and separated range. Its breeding areas include moist montane forest and high-altitude grassland.
