Loriculus beryllinus (Pennant, 1781)
Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, Loriculus beryllinus, is a resident breeding parrot of Sri Lanka in the Oriental Region. It is a small hanging parrot with a short tail and is found in open forest. The adult shows a red crown and rump, an orange wash on the nape and back, pale blue on the chin and throat, a red bill and white irises. Young birds are duller, with less orange on the crown and rump, a faint blue throat, an orange bill and brown irises. It is strictly arboreal and nests in tree holes.
