The Sri Lanka Spurfowl, scientifically known as Galloperdix bicalcarata, is a species of bird endemic to the island of Sri Lanka. This ground-dwelling bird is characterized by its distinct plumage and short, rounded wings. The male features a striking combination of black, white, and chestnut colors, while the female exhibits a more subdued appearance. These birds are typically found in dense undergrowth and forested areas, foraging for seeds, insects, and small invertebrates. The Sri Lanka Spurfowl is known for its secretive nature and often evades human detection. Due to habitat loss and hunting pressures, their conservation status is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
