Star-throated Antwren

Star-throated Antwren, Rhopias gularis, lives in south-eastern Brazil, where it is confined to coastal forest and nearby inland areas. It is the only species in its genus and is placed in the antbird family. The bird is associated with the understorey of evergreen forest, especially thick growth beside streams and in shaded gullies in foothill country. Its range extends from south-eastern Bahia to north-eastern Rio Grande do Sul, with an inland reach to western Paraná. It was first described by Spix in 1825 and is a resident throughout its range.
