Pterodroma longirostris
Stejneger's Petrel (Pterodroma longirostris) is a medium-sized seabird that belongs to the Procellariidae family. It has a dark grey-brown plumage with a distinctive M-shaped pattern on the upperwings. This species is known for its long, slender bill and tube-like nostrils, which are adaptations for its pelagic lifestyle. Stejneger's Petrels are highly pelagic and are often found far out at sea, where they feed on fish, squid, and crustaceans. They are skilled fliers and can cover vast distances during their migrations. Breeding colonies are found on remote islands, where they nest in burrows or rock crevices. Threats to this species include predation by invasive species on breeding islands and accidental bycatch in fishing gear.
