Stephan's Dove

Chalcophaps stephani

Stephan's Dove (Chalcophaps stephani) is a small, ground-dwelling dove species found in the rainforests and woodlands of northern Australia and New Guinea. It is characterized by its striking plumage, with a predominantly grey body, a distinctive white and black striped neck, and a vibrant orange-red patch of bare skin around the eye. These birds are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits and seeds found in their habitat. They are known for their soft, melodious calls and are often observed foraging on the forest floor. Stephan's Doves play a vital role in seed dispersal within their ecosystems.
