Stierling's Bushlark

Calamonastes stierlingi

Stierling's Bushlark is a small passerine bird found in the grasslands and savannas of southern Africa. It is known for its melodious song and distinctive aerial displays during the breeding season. The male has a striking black and white plumage with a rufous crown, while the female is more cryptically colored to blend in with its grassland habitat. Stierling's Bushlark feeds on insects and seeds, foraging on the ground and occasionally catching insects in mid-air. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and agricultural intensification, the species is currently considered to be of Least Concern by the IUCN.
