Stiles's Tapaculo

Stiles's Tapaculo, Scytalopus stilesi, is a tapaculo of the Colombian Andes in central Colombia, where it occurs in montane forest. It was described in 2005 by Cuervo, Cadena, Krabbe and Renjifo. Within its restricted range it is a regular bird of the understorey, and it has been recorded from 21 sites between 1,420 and 2,130 m. Its song is faster and lower in pitch than that of the Ecuadorian Tapaculo, S. robbinsi. The name honours Frank Gary Stiles, whose work focused on Neotropical birds.
